In the gaming peripherals market, Logitech's G5 series is dedicated to "autonomy and creativity." Following the success of the Superstrike series, the new G512 X analog-mechanical dual-axis gaming keyboard was officially launched in 2026. The design of the G512 X draws inspiration from post-industrial aesthetics. Modern gamers often desire more desk space and prefer narrower keyboards. The G512 X foregoes a bulky full-size frame in favor of a more compact 75% and 98% layout, freeing up more room for mouse operation.

The top right corner of the keyboard features a 24-step customizable function knob. Users can configure it for computer volume, screen brightness, or even custom macro commands for software. This knob feels solid and precise when rotated. Although the knob itself is not made of metal, its texture is reminiscent of high-end audio equipment, offering a firm, tactile sensation. Users can easily adjust volume and brightness with their fingertips without switching windows.

Each key on the keyboard uses high-quality PBT keycaps, which feel smooth and dry to the touch, enhancing their wear resistance. Internally, the keyboard features a Gasket silicone pad design combined with a soft rubber surface material. During actual typing, we found that this structure effectively absorbs residual vibrations, producing a distinct, deep, and solid sound, providing a better key feel.

Logitech's lighting design for the G512 X demonstrates a level of craftsmanship beyond its predecessors, no longer solely pursuing vibrant colors but rather focusing on the interactive aesthetics of light and shadow with the environment. We found in tests under various lighting conditions that the coating process of the top light strip is quite unique. On the black model, the light strip coating reflects a deep purple glow at certain angles, while the white model presents a fresh, subtle green hue. Even when the lights are off, the keyboard exhibits intricate layering.

The most stunning design is the newly designed frosted transparent acrylic wrist rest. In the past, wrist rests were often considered detrimental to lighting effects because they blocked the light emanating from the bottom of the keyboard. However, Logitech successfully developed a translucent technology that completely solves this problem. When this wrist rest is placed near the keyboard, its special acrylic material precisely captures and refracts the colors emitted by the light strip. Even when the wrist rest and keyboard maintain a slight distance, vibrant and colorful light still elegantly penetrates through, creating an even more mesmerizing atmosphere.

Stable magnetic sensing technology and dual-axis analog-mechanical experience

At its core, the most commendable evolution of the G512 X lies in the integration of aerospace-grade Tunnel Magnetoresistance (TMR) sensing technology. Compared to common magnetic switches on the market, this technology offers higher sensitivity and stability. Traditional components often suffer from calibration drift due to sensor heating, but this technology completely eliminates such concerns, ensuring the trigger point remains consistently accurate.

The 39 hybrid switch sockets inside the keyboard are a key design feature of the G512 X: the unique "Dual Swap" technology allows players to hot-swap between analog and mechanical switches on the same keyboard, experiencing two entirely different dimensions of operational feedback. PC gamers can install the included analog switches on frequently used movement control keys, such as the W/A/S/D keys. Players can also unlock more potential through the dedicated application, supporting custom trigger distances from 0.1 to 4 mm. This means players can adjust the keyboard to an ultra-fast trigger or deep feedback mode according to different game genres.

Cate believes that the core definition of the Logitech G5 series lies in "autonomy and creativity." The R&D team is committed to creating Logitech's most customizable keyboard for users who enjoy personalizing products and modifying lighting.

In terms of technology, Cate introduced that the G512 X adopted TMR technology to achieve ultimate stability. TMR (Tunnel Magnetoresistance) sensing technology features high sensitivity, high resolution, and low power consumption, enabling extremely subtle and precise reading of key press depth. Compared to traditional magnetic switches, TMR boasts excellent temperature stability, preventing calibration drift due to sensor heating and ensuring precise and reliable actuation in any environment.

To enhance user experience, the R&D team specifically addressed the potential issue of unintuitive analog control. Cate admitted that judging press depth was difficult during early development, so they designed the SAPP assist unit, which provides haptic feedback to clearly indicate a "second trigger point." For example, in FPS games, players can precisely switch actions, such as transitioning from a normal run to a sprint or performing specific auxiliary actions. Additionally, to prevent players from forgetting their modification positions, the keyboard has a built-in "Scan" function that, when pressed, immediately illuminates all analog switch locations, eliminating the need for players to confirm key settings before a game.

Regarding the design of only including 9 analog switches for the 39 hot-swappable sockets, it is based on research from G-hub backend data, which found that most esports players require a maximum of about 9 analog switches for extreme control, primarily concentrated on the flexible 2 to 3 fingers of the left hand. This strikes a balance between performance and comfort.

Regarding the keyboard's lighting aesthetics, Cate emphasized the significant effort her colleagues put into its development. Not only is it bright, but it also features a high degree of aesthetic adjustability. The light strip coating on the black model exhibits a subtle purple hue, while the white model leans towards a slight green, catering to different visual preferences. To address the traditional design flaw where "wrist rests block light strips," the team specially developed a transparent technology that allows light to pass through, even when there is a small gap between the wrist rest and the keyboard, showcasing a delicate glow. The entire keyboard also incorporates environmental considerations, using approximately 37% recycled plastic, striving to achieve harmony between performance, aesthetics, and sustainability.

At the press conference, Aries Sze, Head of Sales and Marketing for Logitech Hong Kong and Taiwan, and Head of Greater China, also specifically emphasized that the G512 X keyboard features "true 8K polling rate." He pointed out that Logitech's requirements for 8K specifications are extremely stringent, not merely superficial data, but rather demanding that every core aspect of "Reporting," "Scanning," and "Processing" truly meets the 8K standard, as originally reported by unwire.hk.
